According to Dr Alfred Mutua, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Kenya has volunteered to deploy a contingent of police officers to Haiti to help the island nation fight the horror that ravaging criminals have imposed on its citizens.

On Saturday, CS Mutua spoke on the phone with Mélanie Joly, Canada's foreign minister, about the unfolding events in Haiti.

"We looked at the situation in Haiti, where criminals have destroyed cities and people's livelihoods."

"Kenya has volunteered to deploy police personnel to help stabilise the nation in this area."

CS Mutua said on Twitter that it "is one of the countries at the cutting edge of backing Haiti's transition towards normalcy."

The Sudan problem was addressed on Saturday, according to CS Mutua, who also disclosed that Kenya has volunteered to act as a mediator between the two opposing sides in Sudan.

CS Mutua disclosed on Twitter that "we simultaneously called for an urgent ceasefire, respect for #HumanRights, and called on governments sabotaging Sudan's stability and tranquilly to keep away from doing so urgently."

"We also decided to help other people with the evacuation of our residents."

Similarly, Mutua said that the collaboration between Kenya and Canada will grant Kenyans the chance to pursue careers in Canada and create potential investment opportunities for both nations.

For Kenyan graduates to be eligible for direct employment in Canada, he said, "We have already modified our TVET curriculum to meet the Canadian labour market."

"We are eager to widen access to the Canadian market for products with added value from Kenya in addition to luring Canadian investors to Kenya."
