A Nairobi court has summoned Tabitha Karanja, the director of Keroche Breweries Industry Ltd., to appear in court this morning to answer to new charges in the Sh14.5 billion tax fraud case against her.

The case was supposed to be heard before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu, but it was postponed because Ms Karanja, a senator from Nakuru, was not present and was allegedly attending to business in Naivasha.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) expressed concern over Ms Karanja's allegedly careless handling of the case.

The prosecution recalled that it had previously cautioned Ms Karanja not to leave the courtroom during proceedings.

In order to file new accusations against the incumbent senator, a senior state prosecutor informed the court that they intended to request permission from the judge.

The prosecution stated, "Your honour, we are also prepared to move forward with the court proceedings with five participants, among them four representing the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)."
