More struggles for Kenyans as salt prices increase by 10 percent starting tomorrow

Kenyans will have to spend more money on table salt after Kensalt Limited Company issued a price hike starting on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

The company's general manager, Arpan Roy, told the public in a press release on Friday that every tonne generated will now cost an extra Ksh. 1,000 plus VAT.

According to Mr Roy, an increase in manufacturing expenses is what caused the price increase.

The announcement said, "We wish to inform you that as a result of the continuous increase in the cost of production, we have been forced to increase our prices by Ksh. 1,000 per tonne plus VAT with effect from April 15, 2023."

"This single rise was essential for providing you with salt without fail going forward."

The decision by Kensalt coincides with an increase in the price of other necessary home supplies.

At the moment, a packet of one kilogramme of salt (Kensalt) costs between Ksh. 30 and Ksh. 40 in the nation, while a package of two kilogrammes costs between Ksh. 70 and Ksh. 80.

It is expected that the 2kg packet of salt will cost between Sh 100 and Sh 120.

Additionally, this follows shortly after President William Ruto said that his government will cut the price of Unga starting next week.
