Murang'a University student Samantha Wanjugu kills herself after a disagreement with her boyfriend

A third-year Murang'a University of Technology student allegedly had an unpleasant disagreement with her lover before taking her own life.

According to reports, Samantha Nyawira Wanjugu, a student seeking a degree in tourism management, hanged herself at her home in the area of Murang'a town.

According to a note from the dean of students, Asige Chavulimu, dated April 18, 2023, the woman passed away on Tuesday at about 1:30 a.m.

Plans are being made for the funeral after the dead body was transferred to the mortuary at Murang'a Level 5 Hospital.

"The Dean of Students' office confirms Samantha Nyawira Wanjugu's demise with great sadness. She dies on April 18, 2023, at 1:30 a.m. after killing herself in a rented room next to a Total Filling Station. The mortuary at Murang'a Lever 5 Hospital is home to the corpse. The date of the burial will be announced later; funeral preparations are still being made."

In other news, a newborn baby girl abandoned inside a pit toilet within the grounds of Rioma Catholic Church in Marani, Kisii County, has been saved by police.

The infant, who was believed to be four days old, was removed from the restroom on Tuesday, April 18, according to a report from the National Police Service (NPS).

A resident complained that she had overheard a baby screaming in the restroom on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., prompting the rescue effort.

"Police at Rioma Police Station reacted to a citizen's claim that a baby's voice was coming from a pit toilet within the grounds of Rioma Catholic Church.

The pit latrine was destroyed, and a female child, believed to be four days old, was saved, according to the statement. "OCS and officers from the station rushed immediately to the incident, which occurred approximately 1.4km from the station," it states.

Police transported the infant to Marani Level 4 Hospital, where they turned her over to the chief nursing officer for the sub-county in good health.

According to the police, "NPS is devoted to protecting children in Kenya via its specialist Child Protection Units, in the child's best interest."

"We congratulate the member of the public who provided the details that led to the baby's prompt evacuation and wish the little girl safety and health." The event is still under investigation.
