Three days prior to their battle, prominent local heavyweight boxer Hassan Mwakinyo will square off against a professional fighter from the Democratic Republic of the Congo called Kuvesa Katembo.

On April 23, at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma, an international non-title super welterweight battle between DRC-South African resident Katembo and Mwakinyo will take place.

In an interview with a local newspaper yesterday, the fight's promoter, Sophia Mwakagenda, the managing director of Lady in Red Boxing Promotions, said that Katembo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo had already reached an agreement in advance of the fight.

Mwakagenda said that Katembo would have to take part in a weigh-in the day before the fight. His trainer and an official would be there to help him.

"I can confirm that Mwakinyo's opponent will arrive in the country three days before the match. This is how boxing rules work. During the weigh-in exercise, he would go through a medical check," Mwakagenda stated.

According to the statistics of both fighters, she said that the fight will likely be tough.

Mwakinyo has won 20 fights (14 by knockout), lost three, and tied one. Kavesha, on the other hand, has won 14 fights, lost seven, and tied one.

The match between Mwakinyo and Katembo will be watched by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who was invited by the government. A four-round battle between several MPs would also take place on the undercard.

Some lawmakers, like Januari Makamba, Joseph Kasheku Musukuma, and others, showed how good they are at fighting and promised to attend.

The Mwakinyo Fight wants to raise enough money to buy 40,000 sanitary pads for female students in the Southern Highlands. These areas include Iringa, Mbeya, Njombe, and Ruvuma.

The last time Mwakinyo competed was on September 3 of last year in Liverpool, England, against English boxer Liam Smith, whom he lost to through TKO in the fourth round.

Katembo last competed in a boxing match on October 2 of last year, winning on points.

Before Mwakinyo's bout, fighter Ibrahim Najum will square off against Laurent Segu in the super lightweight division, while Nakato Mchemba will then challenge Alibaba Tarimo and Feriche Mashauri may battle Chiedza Homakoma.

Jesca Mfinanga, a boxer, will compete against Salma Ally; Happy Daudi will face Hawa Newton; and Sarafina Bela will square off against Halima Bandola.
