Raila Odinga, the head of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance, has now claimed that the policeman who died after being struck by a police vehicle during anti-government demonstrations in Kisumu was his grandson.

At the town hall gathering for the Azimio coalition held in Ufungamano House on Thursday, April 13, Raila claimed credit for bringing Ben Oduor into the National Police Service.

"The young guy who was struck by a police car in Kisumu is my grandson, and his mother is my niece," said Raila.

At the same time, Odinga criticised the government for falsely accusing unsuspecting individuals in murder cases, stressing that Azimio lawyers are investigating instances of police abuse throughout opposition demonstrations.

After a post-mortem report and a police report diverged over Ben Oduor's death, questions were raised.

According to reports, the officer was trying to escape protesters when he made a mistake and stepped into a police car, which struck him.

"He was hurt while engaging demonstrators in Kisumu on March 30, 2023," according to prior police reports.

The officer was employed at Nyamira County's Keroka Police Station up to his death.
