According to Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja party, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be the subject of an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into allegations that he planned to assassinate prominent political figures.

Speaking at the Kamukunji grounds, Raila also said that Azimio intended to file a complaint against any policemen who had overreached during the demonstrations against the government.

Raila said, "We are bringing Rigathi Gachagua's name before the ICC tomorrow."

"We are not lunatics who want violence in our nation. In addition, we have parents, moms, and kids. If Kenyans choose not to unify, it is their decision," he stated.

This occurs soon after Azimio accused Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome of inciting violence and perpetrating crimes against humanity during Azimio's demonstrations and denounced him to the ICC.

Koome responded by charging Azimio with picking on the Meru people in ICC cases.

"A certain politician is stirring up trouble with that letter. When Muthaura was transported there, it all began; now it's me. Why are the Meru people their target? Let's put an end to this tribal issue," Koome stated.

Through its legal counsel, Paul Mwangi, Azimio claimed in its letter to the ICC that Koome had authorised the "maiming and shooting" of civilian protestors in the course of opposition-organised protests.

According to "this communication," Japheth Koome, the inspector general of the National Police Service, authorised assaults during the rallies that left Azimio La Umoja and One Kenya Coalition members dead and injured, as well as arbitrary imprisonment.

The letter stated, in part, that all of these actions "were part of a wide-ranging and planned target on persons who were known or believed to be participants, advocates, or sympathisers of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party who could be recognised by their affiliation with a political party contrary to Article 7 (1) (h) of the Rome Statute, namely, acts that are crimes against mankind and persecution."

Azimio also charged Koome with eight major offences. The coalition said that the police IG formed a special squad of misbehaving police officers to terrorise those who backed it while the demonstrations were taking place.
