Self-described pastor Eliud Wekesa Simiyu, also known as Yesu wa Tongaren, will remain in custody at the Bungoma Police Station for a further four days until the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) completes its inquiries.

The court issued its decision on Friday, stating that the timetable would enable the DCI investigators to wrap up an investigation into Wekesa's New Jerusalem Church in response to claims of dubious theological doctrines.

The renowned preacher's original hold plea from the law enforcement agency was for seven days to provide time for the home and individual as well as conduct a probe.

Bungoma Principal Magistrate Tom Mark Olando, however, rejected the appeal on Friday and instead gave the law enforcement agency four days to complete the investigations.

The police will search Wekesa's residence, which they consider to be the site of the crime, and his church, and conduct a mental examination of the preacher using the timetable indicated above.

It will be brought up on May 16, 2023.

Investigating Officer Elijah Acharia's corroborating affidavit states that 'Yesu Wa Tongaren' is accused of radicalization, money laundering, obtaining, possessing, or using the profits of crime, as well as running an illegal organisation.

" It was written in the bible that I will be arrested, jailed and murdered by law enforcement agencies. So it is going according to the scriptures, " Tongaren Jesus claims while in Police custody.

The self-styled cleric is also charged with violating Section 138 of the Penal Code by writing or speaking with the purpose of offending religious sentiments.
