President William Ruto

According to President William Ruto's most recent statement, Kenyans must remain patient longer until the reduction in the cost of gas is implemented.

During the collaborative interview that took place on Sunday, May 14, 2023, President Ruto admitted that the pledge to reduce prices by June 1, 2023, was an unreasonable goal.

He maintained that the idea would only be approved if the law was enacted in the supplemental budget; nevertheless, he is now claiming that his suggested rates for petrol cylinders would only be applied once the budget has been approved.

"Tarehe moja Juni haiwezekani kwa sababu lazima kwanza tupitishe budget." According to what he said, "it would have been feasible if it had been authorised in the supplemental budget."

Even still, Kenyans must continue to wait and see whether President Ruto will follow through on his promise to complete the promise.

"I said that gas cylinder costs would drop," he maintained.

In conjunction with the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and the second iteration of the Hustler Fund, Ruto made this commitment on March 2, 2023, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

At the time, he said that a gas cylinder weighing six kilogrammes would cost between Ksh300 and Ksh500, which is a reduction from the present price of over Ksh2,800.

Ruto said, to cheers from the audience, that beginning in June 2023, a cylinder of cooking gas weighing 6 kilogrammes will cost either 500 Kenyan Shillings or 300 Kenyan Shillings.

Ruto predicted that as a result of this, a significant number of individuals will switch to using clean energy sources rather than firewood, charcoal, and paraffin.
