Constituents were shocked after their member of parliament donated matchboxes after residents asked for bursaries.

The MP surprised the elderly with matchboxes printed with his photo, citing the beginning of goodies for the constituents in Mathioya.

Dr Edwin Mugo, the newly elected MP for Mathioya, expressed his thanks to the community for helping him win the seat by a wide margin.

In a phone conversation, Dr Edwin expressed his gratitude to the electorate for choosing him above the other eleven candidates to represent them in the House. The elected MP said plainly,

"I'm happy that the Mathioya people shared my and the United Democratic Alliance's goal. The grace and power of God enabled this victory.

In contrast to his rival, who finished a distant second with 8,700 votes, Dr Edwin received 21,503 votes.

Dr Edwin has assured the residents of Mathioya that he is prepared to get his hands dirty for them.

MP Mugo's priority is education.

"One of my top priorities is education. Working together with the national government, I will advocate for Mathioya, the only constituency without a KMTC branch, to have one built. To redirect funds to boarding schools and higher institutions, I will also write a measure on the house floor to remove all-day school fees.

" Additionally, I'll make bursary payments more transparent and increase the fund's size to better support academic schools.

"To understand the skill set of this fantastic constituency, I will create a database of all the students and graduates inside the Mathioya constituency.

"This information will play a significant role in guiding policies to connect individuals with internship and career opportunities.

"I will lead the system's integration of adult education so that adults over 45 and those who missed out on elementary school can now enjoy learning," said the legislator.
