Two days after Pastor Ezekiel Odero's discharge from prison, former prime minister Raila Odinga paid a visit to his Mavueni residence in Kilifi County on Saturday, May 6.
Shortly after 4 o'clock, the ODM leader appeared at the lavish residence with the local governor, Gideon Mungaro, and other Azimio MPs. Cliff Ombeta, the pastor's attorney, was also in attendance.
When Raila arrived, the preacher and his assistants welcomed him. The pastor's multimillion-dollar mansion, along with additional projects, was showcased to him after that.
The mall and the on-site international school were two of the projects he visited.
After spending over an hour there, Raila departed only a few minutes after 5 o'clock. His visit occurred while Pastor Ezekiel was being looked into for possible involvement in the Shakahola tragedy.
He was accused of indoctrinating the faithful as well as terrorism, radicalization, fraud, and money laundering.
The televangelist was directed to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations once a week after being freed on Thursday, May 4, on a Ksh1.5 million bond.
Additionally, he was forbidden from discussing active probes. On Monday, May 8, his case will be heard at the Shanzu Law Courts.
After many fatalities came to light at the pastor's New Life Prayer Centre and Church, he was taken into custody.
Inquiries into the Shakahola Forest, where over 100 bodies were found connected to a suspected cult led by notorious preacher Paul Mackenzie, led to his capture.
Prior to making the visit, the ODM leader criticised President William Ruto at a burial in the county for his intentions to rein in errant preachers.
He challenged Ruto's decision to form a panel of inquiry into the Shakahola massacre more specifically since certain politicians and police personnel were connected to the incident.
