Kenya Power and Lighting Company

The board of directors of Kenya Power and Lighting Company has decided that Joseph Siror will serve as both managing director and chief executive officer (CEO).

Siror has taken Geoffrey Muli's place as CEO of Kenya Power as of May 2022, according to a press release from Kenya Power on May 2, 2023.

According to one portion of the announcement, "Before his appointment, Dr Siror served as General Manager in charge of Technical Services at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO)," which referred to "System Operations and Power Management."

Geoffrey Muli succeeded Rosemary Oduor, who had been serving in the capacity of acting administrator.

Oduor, Muli's predecessor, was appointed in August 2021, replacing Bernard Ngugi, who had unexpectedly resigned as chief executive two years into his term. Ngugi had been in that role for two years.

Before being given the role of interim managing director, she had been working in the position of general manager for the commercial services department.

The recently appointed chief executive officer, Siror, will begin his duties as soon as possible.

"His previous position at the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) was that of Director of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Communication."

"In addition to that, he has held the position of Senior Assistant Commissioner at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), as well as positions at the Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation and Firestone East Africa Limited as Executive Engineer and Senior Systems Analyst, respectively," according to the statement.

The election of Siror takes place at a time when those in authority in Kenya are looking to begin over.

"Dr Siror brings an enormous amount of experience, knowledge, and expertise to the company, not to mention a lot of energy."

According to the release, "His time spent working in the public sector, in addition to his training and knowledge, will assist in providing Kenya Power with a fresh start and building on the company's previous successes to deliver an exciting new strategic direction for the company."
