Raila and Mukami Kimathi

Azimo leader Raila Odinga has advised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua not to turn the passing of the widow of freedom fighter and Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi into a political issue.

After expressing tribute to Mukami Kimathi, the late Dedan Kimathi's wife, Raila said that her loss was a blow to the entire country.

He stated that it was the government's duty to care for the military heroes and that this was a problem that had long been brought up.

"It is a problem that the government can resolve but has essentially been pushed aside for a very long time."

Raila scolded Deputy President and said, "I do not want anyone to try to politicise this issue or score political points over a very sad affair for the nation."

Additionally, he requested that a state funeral be held in commemoration of Mukami Kimathi and other independence warriors at Uhuru Gardens.

The location of Maitu Mukami Kimathi's ultimate state funeral, according to Raila, should be Uhuru Gardens, the place where Mau Mau independence fighters were tortured.

Raila confirmed that he would be there for Mukami Kimathi's funeral, stating that because they were close friends, he did not need an invitation.

"Since Mukami and I were close, I can't skip her funeral. Without a doubt, I'll attend; I don't even need an invitation."

After experiencing breathing problems, Mukami passed away last Thursday while being treated at a hospital in Nairobi.
