Boyz II Men's streams on Spotify have increased dramatically since it was revealed that Kenya will be the last destination on their first Africa Tour, the online music store said on Monday.
Boyz II Men will be the featured act at the second Stanbic Yetu Festival on June 10, which also includes dates in South Africa and Uganda.
The trio, winners of four Grammy Awards, is regarded as one of the most recognisable R&B acts in music history. Spotify data shows that from the day the band's tour was announced, music streaming has increased by 416%, with the song End of the Road being the most popular.
According to Spotify, the average number of streams and searches has increased by 191% and 124%, respectively.
Boyz II Men played a big role in the boy band craze that swept the globe in the 1990s. Along with other bands like Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Blackstreet, and New Edition, they experienced success.
I'll Make Love To You, One Sweet Day, Water Runs Dry, and On Bended Knee are other group classics that have seen a rise in popularity in Kenya.
A stellar lineup of Kenyan and foreign R&B musicians will perform at the event, which is scheduled to take place in Nairobi on June 10, 2023.
The event will feature several Kenyan DJs, including G-Money, DJ Grauchi, DJ Forro, Dj Shaky, CNG, and DJ Cream.
In addition to the 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, Boyz II Men have won nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, and several other international honours.
In addition to winning a Casino Entertainment Award for their outstanding residency at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which has been running since 2013, they also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The multi-award-winning American singer Anthony Hamilton, together with Kenyan performers Otile Brown and June Gachui, headlined the first Stanbic Yetu Festival last year.
