Mudavadi gazettes new 578 sub-counties, divisions, locations

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has gazetted 27 new sub-counties, 59 divisions, 170 locations, and 322 sub-locations, creating a total of 578 new administrative units across Kenya.

In order to accommodate the ever-increasing population around the nation, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has formed 578 new administrative units.


While serving as the acting Cabinet Secretary for the Interior, Mudavadi was responsible for gazetting the new entities, which included 27 sub-counties, 59 divisions, 170 locations, and 322 sub-locations.

According to the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the units would enhance the accessibility of government services for Kenyans and attend to concerns about safety in the particular regions.

Magarini South, Magarini North, Akachiu, Mukothima, Ndithini, Illeret, Kolowa, Baringo West, Mukutani, and Saboti are some of the new subcounties that have made their debut.

The list of communities now includes Samburu West, Ndhiwa East, North East Kano, Ndhiwa West, Siaya West, Embakasi East, Embakasi West, and Embakasi North.

The notice announced the renaming of some of the previous sub-counties to new units. The renaming of these new units includes Maua from Igembe South, Zombe from Mutitu, Sigowet from Soin Sigowet, Tiaty Central from Tiaty West, and Ndhiwa West from Ndhiwa.

This is in accordance with the provisions listed in subsection (1) of section 14 of the National Government Coordination Act of 2013, which states that the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior must get the permission of the President and issue a notice in the Gazette before designating new units.

“The Cabinet Secretary must grant and respect the county government’s decentralized units, formed under Section 48 of the County Government Act, 2012,” the act states in part.
