More than 250 families in Mtepeni Ward, Kilifi south constituency are in fear of being evicted and spending  their Christmas or New year in the cold after an Arab Mombasa based private developer claims that the land belongs to his parents.

Residents of Gorofani and Baharini from Mtepeni ward, Kilifi South Constituency are asking for help from the County after they secured a provisional letter barring the eviction.

"We were born here, until now I'm 52 years old. My father was also born here. The Arab tycoon is saying the land belongs to his family. How did he acquired this land? Because everybody here knows where he bought his/her land from, " Mzee Alphonce Munga said.

"All the land in this ward is in court. No shamba in the ward that does not have a court case, " said Said Abdalla, a resident in the ward.

The eviction orders came after another battle in Mwendo wa Panya in the same ward where Kilifi county speaker Jimmy Kahindi had to intervene after another private developer claimed the land last year.

" After the residents were evicted,  the county speaker went missing. To the affected people, the speaker played a mind game but we knew he was among the cartels, " Abdalla added.

Kilifi South Mp Richard Ken Chonga and Mtepeni ward MCA Victor Gogo Mwaganda could not explain the steps they have taken as political leaders in that area against the land cartels.

Some of the residents alleged the MP and the MCA are auctioning them as they gather cash for 2022 campaigns.

" We know the cartels who are selling our lands to tycoons. The same leaders who immediately come after evictions are the same auctioning our land. The county speaker promised us that he will help, now he does not even pick our calls, " Mzee Munga added.
