Police officers in Athi Rivers, Machakos County

Police officers in Athi Rivers, Machakos County, are probing a Wednesday night incident where a man collapsed and died in a residential house while in the company of his female friend.


In a Police report, Mr Ernest Kamanda, 52, had visited Catherine Kinyanjui, 47, at her house in Athi River but developed breathing complications before he collapsed before he could finish the race.


The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm.


He was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.


“She reported that she was in her house with her friend recognised as Mr Ernest Kamanda, a resident of Kiambu when he developed some complications and collapsed, " the police report stated.


"He was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital with the assistance of the neighbours where he was pronounced dead,” the reported added.


" He came to the house while fit. But before he could end his first race on the bed at around 11.00 PM, he developed breathing problems and collapsed, " his female friend Catherine Kinyanjui said.


Ms Kinyanjui, a civil servant, is helping the officers at Athi River Police Station with their investigations.


The man’s body was taken to the morgue at Shalom Community Hospital pending autopsy.
