Collapsed Nairobi Expressway flyover bridge at Kangemi, Nairobi photo



A Nairobi Expressway flyover collapses at Kangemi area in westlands, Nairobi. 

The bridge is a section of the continuous JKIA expressway construction which disintegrated on Monday late afternoon.

Four people were salvaged while numerous others were reportedly caught up in the debris.

The 27.1-kilometre expressway which is constructed by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

The expressway, which will connect the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi-Nakuru highway, is already 15 percent complete.


 News explain that the contractor has installed over 69 pillars and earthworks along the stretch. 


A portion of the road from Mlolongo all the way to NextGen Mall, a distance of 18.2 kilometres and which is ongoing, will be a flatbed road, while the section from Nextgen Mall through the City-Centre to St Marks church, covering 8.2 kilometres, will be heightened.
