Anne Kananu, the governor of Nairobi, has refuted rumours that she is an alcoholic.
Two members of the Nairobi County Assembly accused the Nairobi Governor of being incompetent and neglecting Nairobians last week.
MCA Waithaka Kananu and Anthony Kiragu and his counterpart from Utalii Wilson, claims that she spends most of her time in bars and nightclubs rather than in the office helping Nairobi residents.
Kananu, however, defended herself in an interview with one of the local dailies, claiming that she was a businesswoman who had invested in multiple nightclubs in addition to being the Governor.
"I own several enterprises, including nightclubs in Nairobi and other counties," says the entrepreneur.
" And, as the owner of several nightclubs, I have the right to inspect my establishment and see how it is run," she said.
She wondered aloud, "Does it make me a drunkard?"
Kananu went on to say that she is in charge and that she is committed to serving Nairobi residents at the county level.
"As a Governor, you work beyond the required hours, and I hold some of my meetings in my business areas."
"This does not imply that I am inebriated... She remarked, "I chair my weekly cabinet meetings and attend events and meetings as appropriate."
