West Ham United will host Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at the London Stadium, with the Hammers ready to play their first-ever match this far into a European tournament.

The Premier League team produced probably their best performance in the last round, defeating Sevilla, the Europa League's defending champions, 2-1 on aggregate after losing the first leg 1-0 in Spain.

West Ham's home match saw Tomas Soucek square the tie with a signature header shortly before halftime before Ukraine's great Andriy Yarmolenko scored the club's most significant European goal of all time to send them into the quarter-finals.

As a result of David Moyes' remarkable success with the club, West Ham is currently only behind Barcelona and RB Leipzig as the favourites to win the Europa League championship, against all odds.

The Hammers were also fortunate in the draw, as they were drawn against Lyon, who, although not losing since falling to Lille in late February, are now ninth in Ligue 1 and having one of their worst seasons in recent memory.

Worse yet, the French giants have only scored 43 goals in the league, compared to West Ham's 51, and with just 12 wins from 30 games in Ligue 1, they'll need every player to show up today and bring a strong result back to the Groupama Stadium against a tenacious Premier League side.

Lyon nearly defeated Porto 2-1 on aggregate in the final round, and they even gave the club's lone home loss of the season when they triumphed 1-0 at Porto, only their second defeat of the season.

Moussa Dembele has been the difference for Lyon this season, scoring the game-winning goal to help them beat the Portuguese giants. He now has 13 goals in all competitions, with just Jarrod Bowen having more for West Ham.
