Following Martha Karua's designation as the Azimio Coalition's Deputy President security beefed up

Following Martha Karua's designation as the Azimio Coalition's Deputy President nominee and Rigathi Gachagua's appointment as Kenya Kwanza's de facto leader, they will be bestowed added protection.

Shortly after Ms Karua was inaugurated at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) grounds yesterday, a police land rover from Kutus police station was observed jerking towards her Kutus home.

Due to the confidentiality of such an assignment, Central Region Commander Manase Musyoki did not instantly reveal the motive of the officers' visit.

Both Martha Karua and her Kenya Kwanza counterpart Rigathi Gachagua are privileged to increase security if necessary, according to National Police Service standards, but must pursue lawfully via their party leadership.

On Monday, NPS Spokesperson Mr Bruno Shioso noted, "As a routine prerequisite, a formal application for their special needs should be submitted and examined for an enforceable security guarantee."

The Election Security Manual of the National Police Service (NPS) stipulates that all eligible participants, including candidates, are privileged to more police protection.

"The deployment procedure includes determining the numbers of police officers and expertise that should be deployed, as well as where and when they should be incorporated."  The guidebook states, "It is a process."
