Senators and MPs want mama Lucy hospital closed
Affected family in Senate over Mama Lucy Hospital.

The Senate Health Committee wants the government to temporarily close Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital so that in-depth investigations can be done into claims of wrongdoing by staff members.

After hearing what they described as "horror tales" coming from the referral hospital, the committee made its judgment. The committee learned on Tuesday that Edward "Eddy" Onyango Otieno had spent more than two hours defenceless and unattended on a tiled floor at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

On September 11, just after 10.30 p.m., the police sent the 41-year-old to the hospital following an accident on Kangundo Road, which is not far from the county referral hospital.

After rushing to the hospital to ensure he would get help, his aunt, Prof. Emily Rogena, saw her nephew pale, with his right eye closed and the eyelid black. He had his shirt torn off, his slacks partially down, and his footwear off as he lay on the chilly floor.

"My nephew died at the door of a St. John's Ambulance while gasping in my hands. The destination that was not to be was the Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital, "according to Prof. Rogena.

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago's lead The committee demanded a comprehensive probe of the institution.

"Nobody should perish while saving another person's life. We are here to make sure that such incidents don't occur again, "he added.

The committee will ask Kiambu Level Five Hospital personnel to describe the conditions under which they treated Maureen Onyango, who passed away there.

Also invited will be representatives from Nairobi County who can explain the workings of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and why a patient was sent to Kiambu rather than the Kenyatta National Hospital.
