David Muya, a manual worker, became the first fortunate winner of the newly introduced Shabiki Kaende prize. He was able to correctly guess the results of 12 out of 13 matches.


Muya, who works as a labourer on a part-time basis, was overcome with pleasure when he found out he had won the jackpot.


"Jana nikaweza kupigiwa simu na nikaambiwa mimi ndio mshindi lakini sikuamini," says Muya, who originates from Lanet, Nakuru County.


"Lakini mimi nimejionea leo ndio niko hapa mbele zenyu na nimeshika zangu ambazo ni elfu mia tano na nimeshukuru Mungu sana kwa yale yote amenitendea kwa ajili nilikuwa nikiomba Mungu sana aweze kunitendea.


He says that the money would help his daughter keep going to school after she was stopped from taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) because she owed money to the school.


The money will also help him support his son, who is now in middle school, and will help him finish his building project.


"Naweza kusomesha watoto wangu, hata sikujua wataregister mtihani kwa ajili ya deni, nimefurahi sana naona wataendelea kusoma na baada ya kumaliza wanaeza endelea mbele... nilikuwa nikishindwa vile nitaweza kuwasomesha lakini maombi tu Mungu akaweza kunitendea na nimefurahi na nimeshukuru sana kaende jackpot," said Muya.
