Leeds have announced that Sam Allardyce won’t be their manager in the next campaign as a result of the team’s demotion to the Championship.

With four games left in the Premier League season, former England manager Allardyce, 68, took charge at Elland Road but couldn’t manage to save the struggling Whites.

The Yorkshire team has now acknowledged that they are looking for a new coach, shortly after deciding on their own to split ways.

“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve as manager of Leeds United, a great team with an unbelievable base of supporters who ought to be in the Premier League,” Allardyce said on the team’s website.

“I want to thank Angus Kinnear for the chance; I enjoyed every minute of working with all the employees and players at the club.

“I also want to recognise Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane for their tremendous efforts over the previous several weeks.

“At this point in my career, I’m not sure I would dedicate myself to taking on this challenge, which could be a lengthy undertaking. Nonetheless, I wish the club much success in the years to come and anticipate their return to the Premier League, where they belong.”

“We thank Sam for being sufficiently courageous to step into the fray and do everything he could to safeguard us,” said Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear.

“We are all very appreciative to Sam, Karl, and Robbie for doing all in their power to cheer up the atmosphere at Thorp Arch and Elland Road despite the unfortunate fact that it was not to be.

The announcement also implies that the team hopes to appoint a new head coach “in the coming weeks”.

Leeds’ fate was sealed on the last day of the season with a 4-1 home loss to Tottenham, giving Allardyce only one result from his final four matches in charge.
