The Athletic reports that Manchester United and Chelsea have reached a settlement for Mason Mount to join the team.

After it was revealed that Mount, 24, had no plans to extend his contract through 2024, it became clear that he was most likely to leave Chelsea this summer.

The midfielder's predicament alerted teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, but the Red Devils swiftly established themselves as favourites.

Mason Mount from Chelsea to Manchester United

With the England international favouring a move to Old Trafford, Manchester United gained an advantage over their competitors. Erik ten Hag's team had trouble agreeing on a cost with the Stamford Bridge team, though. They submitted three bids, the most recent of which, for £55 million, was turned down by Mauricio Pochettino's team.

It has now been revealed that the Red Devils' negotiations with Mount have finally made progress. A previously mentioned outlet claims that they have reached a £60 million agreement with the Blues, who originally requested a £65 million package. The Manchester Giants will pay the London-based club a down payment of £55 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons under the terms of the deal.

According to the article, Mount has been given approval to have a checkup. Before signing a deal with the Old Trafford team, he is now expected to settle personal matters with them. The Daily Telegraph's Matt Law reports that a five-year first contract has been signed.

Thus, the Englishman will conclude his 18-year relationship with Chelsea. He made 195 starts for the club in various leagues, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists. Additionally, he contributed to the Blues' victories in the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and UEFA Champions League.

After departing Chelsea, how will Mason Mount slot in at Manchester United?

At Chelsea, Mason Mount showed his adaptability by playing in a variety of positions, namely central midfield, attacking midfield, and higher up the pitch.

At Manchester United, he could play in a variety of capacities under Erik Ten Hag. The players' best chance of succeeding Christian Eriksen, 31, as No. 8, is to do so.

With Bruno Fernandes perhaps operating on the sides as he did closer to the conclusion of the previous season, the midfielder may also serve as a No. 10. However, it is anticipated that he will begin every game at Old Trafford. It's important to keep in mind that this summer, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek may leave the Red Devils.

After acquiring Mount, Manchester United is expected to add additional players to their roster. Ten Hag's top two transfer priorities are a new striker and a custodian.

They have also been associated with Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, among others.
