Muhimbili-Mloganzila National Hospital expects to provide specialist services for weight loss surgery and reconstructive surgery (bariatric and reconstructive surgery) starting October 27, 2023.
The surgery will involve reducing body fat and correcting body contours, including reducing or increasing the size of the breasts and hips, reducing the belly or flesh on the arms, and other parts of the body.
This was said on Wednesday, October 10, 2023, by the Head of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Eric Muhumba, when he was speaking to the media about the surgery.
Dr. Muhumba said the surgery will be done by Mloganzila specialists in collaboration with a weight loss and reconstructive surgery specialist from India, Dr. Mohit Bhandari, and the MedINCREDI Health Institute.
He said the weight loss services are done by reducing the space to store food by sewing a part of the stomach area, something that will cause a person to consume a small amount of food, thus reducing weight.
Dr. Muhumba explained that in providing these services, they will use a modern method that will not involve surgery, where they will use a special device called an endoscopy to enter the stomach and reduce the space in the stomach for food.
“This surgery will be done at a very cheap price compared to if someone went to seek these services abroad, so we have decided to bring these services to the people and reduce the inconvenience of the people travelling abroad to seek these services,” said Dr. Muhumba.
Along with these services, Dr. Muhumba added that the remedial service will involve reducing fat and adjusting parts of the body, such as the size of the breasts, the flesh on the arms, the RMs, and various other parts of the body.
