Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid - 04/02/2024

The question on everyone’s mind is whether Diego Simeone’s men can halt their rivals’ hot streak or if Los Blancos will continue their seemingly unstoppable title charge.

Real Madrid enters the match with high spirits, having claimed a 2-0 victory over Getafe on Thursday with a brace from Joselu, who finally ended his run of 12 league games without a goal.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side has won each of their last six La Liga matches, with 13 victories and three draws coming in their previous 16 encounters.

When looking at the bigger picture, Los Blancos have lost just one of their 22 league games this season, which came against Atletico Madrid back in September.

With 28 points from a possible 30 at the Bernabeu this term, Real Madrid is confident of exacting revenge on their old foes this time around.

Atletico Madrid also claimed an important victory in their midweek match, defeating Rayo Vallecano 2-1, thanks to a 90th-minute winner from Memphis Depay.

That victory extended Atleti’s winning streak in La Liga to three matches, with a solitary goal conceded since last month’s crazy 4-3 defeat to Girona.

However, Simeone’s side has been inconsistent in the league of late, with seven wins, one draw, and four losses coming in their past 12 games.

It is also worth noting that Atletico has struggled on the road in recent times, losing four of their last five away league outings while conceding nine goals.

Head-to-head, Atletico Madrid won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in September, meaning Simeone’s men have not lost any of their last five meetings with Los Blancos in normal time.

In La Liga, however, Atletico has won just two of their previous ten matches against Real Madrid, suffering five defeats along the way.

In terms of team news, the hosts are still missing three key players through injury, with Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba, and Eder Militao on the sidelines.

On the other hand, the visitors’ injury list contains Cesar Azpilicueta, Jose Maria Gimenez, Thomas Lemar, Alvaro Morata, and Vitolo.

Although Atletico has upped their game since the turn of the year, it is difficult to ignore Real Madrid’s remarkable hot streak. Bana Sports predicts that both teams will score on Sunday. However, Real Madrid looks set to outscore their rivals and strengthen their title bid past Girona.
