Chaos as Dagoretti South demolition begins, Nairobi City County officers destroy property

On a quiet Saturday afternoon, typically a time when Nairobi City County Askaris (Kanjo) operatives are off-duty, residents of Dagoretti South were shocked as an old, dilapidated caterpillar wreaked havoc in their neighbourhood.

The caterpillar reportedly went on a destructive spree, causing severe damage to private property. Untrained and possibly unauthorised personnel drove the caterpillar, according to eyewitnesses.

It first destroyed one residence and was on its way to demolishing another when vigilant residents intervened, halting its path of destruction.

This shouldn’t be happening, particularly on a Saturday when Kanjo shouldn’t be open. It’s evident that these were not regular city council employees, but rather a group of incompetent individuals assigned to this task, as a local resident who witnessed the unfolding chaos described the scene.

This incident has left the affected residents in a state of despair, as many have questioned who will take responsibility for the damages incurred.

The response from the local authorities has been lacklustre, with officials advising the victims to report the matter to their area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Erick Kiogora or the local Member of Parliament (MP) John Kiarie.
