Kisumu’s Kibuye Market Woman Beating Others with Rod, Arrested

The lady who was seen on camera using a wooden rod to viciously attack two businesswomen at Kibuye Market on November 17 has been taken into custody.

The event was described as a major criminal assault by Kisumu police, who also connected it to current leadership struggles in the marketplace.

Following popular indignation, one of the ladies in the video was taken into custody while hiding in the marketplace.

A police complaint submitted to the Kondele Police Station states that the incident happened at around 4 p.m. while two vendors were having a chama meeting close to their booths at Kibuye Market.

They reported to the police that 10 people attacked them during the meeting and claimed that the market chairlady was in charge of the group.

The chairlady was equipped with a wooden rod when the mob assaulted the ladies a short while later.

One lady suffered injuries to her face, arms, shoulders, and back, while the other had injuries to her ribs, back, arms, and shoulders. Both victims suffered severe injuries.

They were taken in an ambulance to Lumumba Sub-County Hospital, where they were treated before being released.

After responding to the event and visiting the location with the Kondele Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) discovered that the assailants had left.

A video obtained by bana.co.ke shows the woman believed to be in charge of the market hitting one of the victims while she lies helplessly on the ground.

The lady was taken into custody and lodged at Kisumu Railways Station, according to the police, and further charges might be brought when the inquiry is over.

The Kondele police have promised that all of the other group members who took part in the assault would be subject to the full power of the law, and they are still at large.

The lady will appear in court, according to the police, who also said that arraignments are still in progress.
