Mwangaza’s Final Goal – Beginning the Signature Drive to Disband the Meru County Assembly
Following Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s approval of measures to stop conflicts forever, a group of Meru people started gathering signatures.
On Monday, November, a collection of locals and civil society organizations launched the campaign to suspend the county assembly.
Mwangaza had backed the action, stating that it would provide the leaders a chance to ask the people for a new mandate.
Residents of Nkubu, Imenti South, spoke out during the exercise and asked President William Ruto to suspend the autonomous entity, stating that they were fed up with the arguments between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the MCAs.
Residents of Meru, James Kinoti, said that the leaders had only engaged in warfare since the August 9 elections of the previous year and urged the President to suspend the county.
“The existing leaders have let us down, therefore we want to return to the polls and choose new ones.
He declared, “Leave them to go home; we will elect new leaders who truly represent us.”
Kiagu MCA, the governor’s ardent supporter Simon Kiambi also signed on.
He urged the President to suspend the country, saying, “We have failed the people of Meru as leaders.”
