However, the emergence of âZappa Fumesâ inhalationâwhere individuals heat the liqueur and inhale its vapours for a rapid, intense buzzâhas drawn scrutiny.
Social media platforms have seen posts and videos of the practice, often glamorized as a daring party trick.
Critics warn that inhaling alcohol vapours bypasses the bodyâs natural filtration processes, leading to dangerously high blood alcohol levels and potential risks like respiratory distress, alcohol poisoning, and long-term lung damage.
âInhaling alcohol is not a safe or legal alternative to drinking,â said Dr. Leila Kariuki, a public health expert based in Nairobi. Itâs a hazardous trend that could have severe consequences.â
Local authorities are monitoring the trend, with some urging liquor manufacturers, including Zappaâs producers, to issue public warnings.
