The Hon. Moses Kuria has asked that Kenyan police officers come home from their “misadventure” in Haiti and head straight to the streets of Nairobi to stop the city’s epidemic of acts of violence.
Moses Kuria, a former public service CS, made the call right after the UN Security Council voted to set up a new “Global Force for Haiti.”. This meant that the problematic Kenya-led mission was over.
He said, “I salute the UN Security Council for the resolution.” “This should now put an end to the unambiguous Kenyan mission and stop the misadventure.”
Moses Kuria has been a strong and steady opponent of the Haiti deployment.
He has said in the past that the former US Ambassador was to blame for the whole operation, and he has extensively grieved the deaths of Kenyan officers who died in the uprising.
Kuria is now asking the Inspector General of Police directly.
He wants the combat-ready officers to go straight back to work when they get back “to put an end to the daylight muggings and pickpocketings” that are terrorising people in the capital.
Kuria’s request comes at the same time that the UN is moving to a new, bigger Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti.
Kenya’s first UN mission was underfunded and understaffed, completing only 40% of its goals.
The new force will be much bigger, with 5,500 people working to restore order in the Caribbean nation, which is a tough job.
