Unauthorized SIM swaps have been more common these days, resulting in numerous Safaricom subscribers losing millions of shillings to scammers.
Con artists have started registering Safaricom phone numbers on other SIM cards, allowing them to access their victims’ notifications, passwords, and banking profiles.
To avoid this, the telecommunications behemoth has launched a USSD code that users can use to whitelist their mobile phone numbers.
This means that they can only replace their SIM card in person, with their national identification card, or by calling the company’s customer service line.
