Fulham have stepped up their pursuit of American striker Ricardo Pepi with a new official bid worth €32 million fixed, according to reliable reports on Saturday evening. Negotiations are now underway with PSV Eindhoven, as the Premier League club looks to land one of their top January targets before the window slams shut.
It’s the latest twist in a saga that’s been rumbling on for weeks. Fulham first tested the waters with an offer around the €30-35 million mark late last year, only for PSV to knock it back without much hesitation. The Dutch giants value their man higher – some whispers suggest they’re holding out for something closer to €40 million or more – but this improved proposal has got talks moving again. No add-ons mentioned yet, just a straight €32m on the table.
Pepi, who’s just turned 23, has been turning heads in the Eredivisie since joining PSV back in 2023. The Texas-born forward burst onto the scene with FC Dallas as a teenager, earning a big-money move to Europe. Things didn’t quite click at Augsburg, but a loan spell at Groningen got him firing again – 13 goals in 31 games. PSV snapped him up for around €9 million, and he’s repaid that faith with consistent output.
This season alone, before his unlucky injury, Pepi had bagged eight goals in the league, often coming off the bench but still making a real impact. He’s quick, strong in the air, and has that knack for being in the right place at the right time.
Sadly, a broken arm picked up in a routine win over Excelsior has sidelined him until mid-March or so. That’s thrown a spanner in the works for any immediate move – he’d miss crucial weeks adapting to the Premier League intensity – but clubs like Fulham clearly see the long-term picture.
For Marco Silva’s side, sitting comfortably mid-table after a solid first half of the campaign, adding Pepi makes perfect sense. Raul Jimenez has been a revelation at times, chipping in with goals and experience, but he’s 34 now and his contract runs out in the summer.
Rodrigo Muniz has shown flashes too, yet the Cottagers need more depth up top if they’re serious about pushing higher. Pepi’s youth and upside fit the bill. He’s already got 13 goals for the US men’s national team in 34 caps, and with the 2026 World Cup on home soil looming, regular Premier League minutes could cement his spot under Mauricio Pochettino.
From PSV’s side, it’s trickier. They’re top of the Eredivisie, chasing silverware on multiple fronts, and losing their main striker mid-season would hurt. Technical director Earnie Stewart – an American himself – has made it clear in the past that only an “exorbitant” fee would tempt them.
His contract runs until 2030 after a recent extension, so they’ve got leverage. But money talks, especially if Fulham sweeten the deal or Pepi pushes for the switch. The player hasn’t said much publicly, but a return to facing top-level competition in England, working under Silva’s attacking setup, must appeal.
This isn’t Fulham’s first rodeo with US talent either. Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream have been stalwarts for years, bringing that transatlantic flavor to Craven Cottage. Adding Pepi could build on that, creating a real American backbone. Other Premier League sides have sniffed around too – names like West Ham popped up last year – but Fulham seem the most determined right now.
If it happens, it’d be a statement signing for the west London club. Not many mid-table teams splash €32 million plus on a striker in January, especially one coming off injury. But Pepi’s potential is undeniable. He’s got the physicality for the English game, the finishing touch, and that hunger you see in young players chasing the big stage.
Talks are ongoing, as they say, and these things can drag or accelerate overnight. PSV might dig in, waiting for summer when Pepi’s fit and his value could rise even more.
