Wakali wao and Wakali kwanza terrorize people of Kwabulo, Junda, Mishomoroni, Bamburi, Bakarani and Bombolulu areas in Mombasa.

Wakali kwanza and Wakali wao were political groups started by former Kisauni MPs including Current Governor Hassan Joho and Rashid Bedzimba.

The groups were purely youth groups hired for political support and campaigns. The groups were led by Rashid benzimba brother Salim Hanjary Bedzimba who was shot dead alongside Kibwana Ahmed Abdalla, alias Rajab, by police in 2016.

Mishomoroni area has another group called Gaza which broke out from Wakali kwanza. The group is headquartered just behind Dog Unit police station in Mishomoroni.

The groups got out of hands from the politicians and became killer groups in Kisauni places of Toa tugawe, Magodoroni and Legeza. They use machete, knives, hammer and metallic pipes to injure even sometimes people die.

The former county commissioner Nelson Marwa became tough on these groups and they disappeared for a while.

The gangs consist of youth and children. Youths aged between 18-24 years and children to as low as 14 years.

The groups are now regrouping as other members fallout to form other gangs in Kisauni Mombasa.

Targeted and worst areas targeted by the gangs are areas along or bordering Lights Kengeleni-Kisauni- Bamburi road.

The majority of these youths are conductors and Manambas of that route. Sometimes terrorize people in the Matatus.

"I was going to work in the morning, boarded a Matatu to ferry. At seyyid Fatma hospital, Mlaleo the Matatu changed route citing jam could make them let, only to be terrorized before joining the Mishomoroni road." Mercy Wangui said who is a resides at Banburi.

"The driver got out of the matatu, collected our cash, took our wallets, purses and anything they found out valued. They left the matatu and disappeared," she added.

"I had to walk from Mishomoroni without shoes to Bamburi. I didn't report to work that day." She said. [no-sidebar]
