Threatening to cause President William Ruto further pain due to rising living costs, Azimio leaders reveal the plan.
On Sunday, November 12, Azimio la Umoja made threats that would seriously impede the Dialogue Committee’s advancement over the cost of living.
During their speech in Luanda, representatives of Azimio promised not to sign the Dialogue Committee report if it did not address the skyrocketing cost of living.
Leading the Wiper Party, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, said on behalf of Azimio that if the report does not live up to public expectations, they will send it to the Parliament.
In addition to being a member of the national dialogue committee, Eugene Wamalwa, the head of the DAP-Kenya Party, pledged not to sign the committee report if it did not include recommendations on how the Kenya Kwanza administration could immediately address the skyrocketing cost of living.
The high cost of living is a concern that several leaders in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, including Senator Godfrey Osotsi of Vihiga, Secretary General of the ODM Party Edwin Sifuna, and many others, contributed to the national dialogue committee’s list of concerns.
The high cost of fuel, which has affected living expenses, and the recent arbitrary increase in Immigration and Citizen Services fees—which will require Kenyans to pay Ksh1,000 for a national identity card—have been criticized by the leaders of President William Ruto’s administration.
A lot of Kenyans expressed alarm over the additional levies, but Ruto said nothing.
He is eager to investigate all available options for raising capital to fund his government, nevertheless.
