2 boys dies in Mwingi over circumcision gone wrong photos

Two boys aged 5 and 7 from Lundi village in Mwingi East Sub County succumbed from wounds after a faulty circumcision.

They were circumcised on Wednesday night with news stating they bled extensively without any professional aid.

Their parents confess devotion to the Kavonokia sect which prohibits followers from attending hospitals. That made the parents decline to take the boys to the hospital.

Area Chief Patrick Mwaniki stated that parents should shun away from the past religious beliefs and forbidden from taking their kids to traditional circumcisers.

The 70-year-old circumciser who mishandled the cuts has been arrested and police officers investigating on the matter.

The bodies of the two children were taken to the Mwingi Level Four Hospital.

However, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the state had told the traditional elders to have the yearly circumcision celebrations paused to prevent the spread of the novel virus.

“Is it better to have a delayed initiation ritual than have somebody to initiate or carry out an initiation ceremony and kill our young men.”

“This is an ongoing debate, but I can tell you that it is actually prohibited to think of carrying out such activity before the agreement with the ministry of health and perhaps protocols being developed,” the Health CS said.
