Timothy Musembi, 34, a secondary school teacher in Kirinyaga who brutally hacked his colleague to win the heart of a female intern on teaching practice has been charged with attempted murder.

Mr Timothy Musembi was Thursday taken to a court in Wang'uru under tight security to answer attempted murder charges.

He was challenged that on March 2, at Karoti Girls High School in Mwea East Sub-County, he strived to kill Mr Alphonce Orina, 26, by slashing his head and hands with a panga.

The court told that during the fight in the school’s staff room, the complainant sustained severe injuries and he had to be admitted to hospital for specialised treatment.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Monica Kivuti, Mr Musembi disputed the charge and applied to be released on bond.

The magistrate entered a plea of not guilty against Mr Musembi and directed that he be released on a Sh 100,000 bond until March 17 when the case will be considered.

However, the involved has been remanded in prison as he could not immediately raise the bond.
