Female businesswomen in Uganda’s Lira city

Female businesswomen in Uganda’s Lira city blocked from occupying the cabins of transit trailers over allegations that they 'distract' drivers steering to road tragedies.

The ruling according to the country’s media reports, comes after current road accidents in the Lira area that left nine people lifeless.

"The accident happened after a Fuso truck transporting traders and their merchandise got involved in an accident at Pii-awac swamp, seven kilometres east of Lira City,” the Monitor noted.

Despite surrendering that irrational driving was possibly to criticize for the disaster, Ugandan authorities decried the businesswomen.

The authorities allegedly wear stimulating and revealing clothes that ‘distracts’ drivers.

The statement evoked mixed reactions on Uganda’s social media platforms with some wondering how the women’s dress code could be tagged a major road threat.

Others however upheld the move alleging that there was a disturbing new trend of women in Uganda that dresses provocatively and is required to be dealt with.
