Dr. Nicholas Atudonyang, the Deputy Governor of West Pokot County jetted back to the country before of the August 9th polls.

Dr Atudonyang, who returned to the United States shortly after the 2017 elections, was applauded as a recent Pokot leader on Saturday at Amaya shrines in Baringo.

The elders praised him as he announced his candidacy for the West Pokot governor seat on a KANU ticket in the fourth coming polls.

He will be striving to unseat Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo, who will be protecting his seat as the leader of the Kenya United Party (KUP).

"The people support me, because they feel and appreciate what I'm doing for them, and they know that I'm carrying their hopes and dreams with me," he said.

"As we get closer to the polls, you'll see for yourself that the majority of the people will give me the mandate to be governor this time, not just deputy governor," he added.

Governor Lonyangapuo was chastised by Dr. Atudonyang who accused him of lagging behind on unifying people of West Pokot county.

"The governor saw fit to set a small tribal party in order to disconnect the people of West Pokot from the rest of Kenya," he said.

"However, the people of West Pokot appear to be smarter than the governor himself," he added.

Dr. Atudonyang is alleged to have fled to the United States shortly after the recent elections, where he has been working as a neurosurgeon.

When Atudonyang was summoned by the Senate and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Governor Lonyangapuo defended his absence (EACC).

The governor clarified his verdict to allow his deputy to work and live in the United States, contending that Atudonyang was boosting the county in receiving medical equipment.
