Old currency notes in Kenya exchange with new currency

Days after their dad's funeral, a family in Meru county was left perplexed after discovering old notes worth KSh 90,000 among their dad's things.


As per the deceased's daughter-in-law, her 61-year-old father-in-law died on February 16, 2022, and after his funeral, the family went to his rental property to gather his belongings.


Due to work duties, the 61-year-old resided in a rental property in Lang'ata, but his home is Meru, according to his daughter-in-law Risper Mwendwa.

They went to the Lang'ata to collect his belongings after his send-off and were astonished by what they found.


"We discovered an envelope in one of his suitcases, and when we opened it, we discovered old KSh 90,000 notes," she explained.


Since then, the family has been debating whether or not they should discard the enormous sum of money, but they are hoping and praying that they will be able to swap it for the banknotes.
