Top 3 Governor candidates accused of being Standard Seven, Form Two and Form Four dropout -EACC

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) have charged three dominant governor candidates of falsifying academic qualifications, putting their careers in jeopardy.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who the EACC and DPP claim fled from Mombasa's Shimo La Tewa jail in 1998, is also on a tightrope.

DPP Noordin Haji and EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak indicated on Tuesday that they will fight for the removal of election candidates convicted of wrongdoing or who have credibility issues.

Up to 40% of applicants seeking elected seats, according to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, are engaged in unlawful fake money trafficking, also known as "wash wash," and other criminal dealings.

Mbarak said the commission would prosecute other aspirants with fraudulent degrees after probes are completed, while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the fourth International Association of Prosecutors and the East Africa Association of Prosecutors conference in Mombasa.

"We have a number of convictions to make, including a governor running for an elective position who is a Class Seven dropout with a forged degree.

" How did he get his certificate? Another one, a Form Two dropout, and you know where and how you got your degree, right?" Twalib shocked.

Haji voiced alarm about a pattern in which numerous people with credibility difficulties were pursuing elective positions at the same event.

"You can't be impeached in Nairobi and then go to Mombasa to compete for the same job." It's past time for us to follow the Constitution and put an end to this farce," Haji added, referring to Sonko, who was impeached as Nairobi governor in December 2020 but is now running for the same seat in Mombasa.

In the Ukambani region, a candidate who claims to have dropped out of school in Class Seven is running for governor. A politician who allegedly dropped out in Form Two is running for governor in the Coast region, while another with a Form Four certificate is running for governor in the same region.

The Kenya Kwanza is responsible for Standard Seven and Form Two dropouts, while the Azimio la Umoja is responsible for Form Four dropouts.
