Jeremiah Kioni and Kanini Kega,

The conflict between Jeremiah Kioni and Kanini Kega, dueling leaders of the Jubilee Party, for the position of secretary general of the organization, became more intense during an event.

When the two leaders of the party met at the People's Dialogue Festival at the Museums of Kenya on Thursday, they couldn't agree on who would talk about the party's leadership at the event put on by the Center for Multiparty Democracy.

Once party Secretary General Kioni went to a plenary where his competitor Kega was participating, the struggle for control of the erstwhile governing party began. The two became close to fighting, but the event organizers interfered and kept them apart.

On February 9, the Jubilee Party's National Executive Council replaced Kioni with Kega. The Political Parties Conflict Tribunal overturned the modifications after they were approved by the Registrar of Political Parties.

According to an announcement by the Center for Multiparty Democracy, former Ndaragwa MP Kioni is responsible for the close call since he entered and interrupted a conference that Kega was taking part in.

Several political figures, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, were present at the meeting hosted by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy.

The CMD conveyed displeasure in a remark about the breach of order that occurred at the event as Jubilee party segments battled openly in front of guests and partners over internal party disputes.

The message further said that the CMD-Kenya Board is aware of the events and that decisions would be made on the Jubilee Party's next course of action.

Since the election of last year, political unrest has plagued the Jubilee Party, an ally of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, as roughly 30 of its MPs made a commitment to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza Administration.
