Pastor Mackenzie and dead bodies in Shakahola

Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, has denounced the Shakahola Forest Massacre as an apparent infringement of the human right to freedom of religion established in the constitution.

After maintaining his silence on the matter, he finally commented by saying that serious violations of Kenyan law and international law had been perpetrated on a large scale.

Kindiki stressed the need for further stringent control of all religious institutions moving forward while at the same time protecting the freedom of religion.

As a reaction to the heinous crime, Kindiki has given orders to the Regional Commissioner for the Coast Region to strengthen the security team that is currently stationed in Malindi in preparation for his arrival on Tuesday.

In addition, he guaranteed that the whole 800-acre woodland had been cordoned off and designated as an investigation site to avoid more fatalities.

Archbishop Anthony Muheria and many other priests broke their silence on the Shakahola Massacre and harshly denounced Pastor Mackenzie for his role in the tragedy.

Pastor Mackenzie is compared to a terrorist by President William Ruto, who believes that he is using religion to propagate strange and undesirable views. President Ruto added that Pastor Mackenzie has no place outside of prison.

President Ruto said, "The events that are now taking place in Shakahola are comparable to acts of terrorism."

"In reality, Mr Mackenzie is a very dangerous criminal, despite the fact that he poses as a clergyman."

"Terrorists use religion as a tool to further their horrible deeds."

"People like Mackenzie are using religious beliefs in order to accomplish the same goals."
