Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir vented his ire at obstinate tenants.

Following the crumbling of a four-story structure on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in the Marikiti neighbourhood close to the Mackinnon Market, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir vented his ire at obstinate tenants.

The Mombasa County Lands and Housing Department had designated the structure dangerous for habitation in a notice dated May 12, 2023, and it was scheduled for destruction but collapsed before bulldozers could reach it.

Just hours after the Mombasa County administration sent a team to forcibly remove all the occupants, the building fell with no injuries.

As soon as he arrived at the scene of the fallen building and addressed the media, Governor Nassir lashed out at the obstinate residents who had declined to leave.

He pointed out that the county government would be gathering corpses instead if the residents hadn't been evicted from the building forcibly.

The Mombasa governor extended his congratulations to the county team and gave them his support in carrying out orders like evictions in other locations.
