How Museveni contracted COVID-19 despite wider social distances and wearing a mask

President Yoweri Museveni contracts COVID-19

Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, tested positive for COVID-19 but is otherwise healthy and will go on with his responsibilities while receiving treatment, a top official from the health ministry said late on Wednesday.

The president’s COVID-19 test result was positive today. After experiencing some flu-like symptoms, this happened. However, he is in good condition and is continuing to carry out his responsibilities regularly, according to SOPs, the health ministry’s permanent secretary, Diane Atwine, said on Twitter. She was referring to the SOPs for addressing COVID cases.

Museveni, 78, provided the first indication that he could have caught COVID earlier on Wednesday after delivering a State of the Nation speech on the grounds of the parliament. He said that the morning after feeling a mild cold, he decided to have COVID testing.

Two of the three tests he had conducted, he said, had come back negative, and he was awaiting the results of the third.

I am standing here as a suspect in Corona. That is why you saw Mama and I arrive in different vehicles, “Museveni stated, referring to the First Lady Janet Museveni, who was accompanying him when he went to parliament.

Uganda adopted among the strictest containment measures in Africa during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic, including curfews, business and school closures, the closing of borders, and other actions.

In February 2022, it officially reopened.

Museveni, who has had his COVID vaccination, always wore a mask when out in public throughout the epidemic, did his official business while maintaining social distance, and was often seen sitting by himself in a tent on the grounds of his office while receiving guests.
