This week, Guinea and Egypt in Group D resume their qualification for the 2023 African Cup of Nations. The two teams with the highest scores in Group D will play in Marrakesh on Wednesday.

Due to the goal differential, Egypt is in first place in the group. The Pharaohs sWatch cored seven goals and allowed two, earning nine points from their first four games.

With seven victories, Egypt has the most victories overall in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations. In the previous edition, Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties.

1976 was Guinea’s greatest showing in the Africa Cup of Nations. That year, the squad came in second. Guinea’s greatest result since then was a quarterfinal berth in 2015. In the 2021 competition, the National Elephants advanced to the round of 16.

In the rematch of Group D, Egypt defeated Guinea 1-0 in Cairo. Since the match was played roughly a year ago, both national sides have seen a significant transformation. The game’s lone goal was scored by Egypt’s Mostafa Mohamed in the 87th minute to secure the victory.

Group D includes Malawi and Ethiopia in addition to Guinea and Egypt. Currently, Guinea and Egypt will advance to the competition’s next round. For the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, both countries are in the qualifying spots.

Egypt had a winning streak of five games entering this contest. They triumphed against Niger, Liberia, Belgium, and twice against Malawi. Being that Belgium was getting ready for the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the victory against Belgium was shocking.

In their most recent two contests, Guinea defeated Ethiopia 2-0 and 3-2. In games against better African national teams like Algeria and Ivory Coast, the National Elephants struggled.

Guinea lost 4-1 overall against both of its African counterparts in September 2022.

Naby Keita, a former midfielder for Liverpool, has been recalled by coach Gaby Diawara. Keita, who is now playing for Werder Bremen in Germany, is coming off a disastrous season in England. Ilaix Moriba of Valencia and Amadou Diawara of Anderlecht are two more potential midfield picks.

Guinea may have trouble scoring goals. The team’s strikers have scored a total of 13 goals between them.

Mohamed Salah, a striker for Egypt, ought to kick off the assault from the right side. In 89 international games, Salah has scored 51 goals.

Mostafa Mohamed has recently participated in international games and performed well. Four of Egypt’s past eight games saw him score.

For Guinea and Egypt to go to the Africa Cup of Nations, they just need to win a point on Wednesday. In Marrakesh, the teams ought to have a 1-1 tie to advance to the competition the following year.
