Uhuru Kenyatta, a former president

Uhuru Kenyatta, a former president, has sworn to protect his family in the wake of government threats.

President William Ruto was fingered by Uhuru to abandon his family over mistreatment after police searched the house of his son Jomo in Karen.

"I have an entire government minister telling me he's going to do something in the immediate vicinity of my mother's house. My mother has been protected for the past 50 years, but they withdraw at night. Currently, my son's home is being searched for reasons I don't understand," Uhuru said.

The former president pledged to safeguard his loved ones in the same manner that he "defended the country while serving as president."

"The security of my family appears to be under attack, which is why I'm here. I have been quiet, but being silent is not an indication that I won't stand up to my family. I will defend my family to the end. I defended Kenya, and I did my best for this country and handed it over when my time was finished," he said.

Uhuru Kenyatta urged the media to defend Kenyans' rights and the country's democracy.

Following a police search of his son's house in Karen, Nairobi, he has made an appeal. Kenyatta asked the media to support the rights of Kenyans to freedom and defend the nation's democratic values.

The police searched the home of his son Jomo during the raid to see whether there were any firearms there.

Uhuru Kenyatta criticised the ruling party for persecuting his family members in retaliation to the event, particularly with regard to the removal of protection for the former First Lady, Ngina Kenyatta.

The former leader voiced his worry about the steps taken towards his family and urged the media to defend Kenyans' right to freedom of speech and assembly.
