Maina Njenga at Makadara Law Courts, charged for drugs, machete possession

Five days after his fate remained unknown, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was hauled before the Makadara Law Courts on Monday.

On July 19, Njenga and two other people were taken into custody in the Kajiado County neighbourhood of Olosurutia.

Njenga, Peter Kamunya, and Felix Lakishe were allegedly caught on July 19 with “cannabis weighing 1.224 grammes with a market value of Ksh. 36,720 and cocaine weighing 486 grammes with a market value of Ksh. 1.944, 000 hidden in plastic bag packages in motor vehicles with Toyota Hilux Surf registration number KCJ 413X.”

According to the records, the trio was discovered on July 20 with 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three Jembe spears.

The statement continues, “indicating that these individuals were so armed with intentions to carry out a felony.”

The trio is said to have planned an illegal gathering and parade on the same day that was to take place in Nairobi City County and other regions of the country.

Five counts of planning to conduct a criminal offence and trafficking narcotics will now be brought against the trio.

They will also be accused of planning an illegal gathering and intending to provoke the people to violence.
