After homicide, residents of Ugenya storm police station, burn suspect house

The Ugenya Sub-county police are conducting an investigation into an incident in which villagers torched a house in Sihayi subsequent to the public storming of the police post there in connection with the alleged murder of a man.

Allegedly, Chris Olunga, 32, was fatally slashed at a spirits establishment located in the Sihayi commercial centre. The incident transpired subsequent to a dispute between Olunga and one of his drinking companions.

Chrispine Onyango, the assistant chief of the Ligala sub-location, reports that the body of the deceased was discovered sprawled on a footpath

Chrispine Onyango, the assistant chief of the Ligala sub-location, reports that the body of the deceased was discovered sprawled on a footpath near the liquor establishment following what is believed to be a homicide.

He claimed that the local populace was allegedly infuriated when the police transferred the body to a private mortuary in the town of Sega without notifying the man’s family members.

They insisted on knowing the circumstances surrounding the murder and why the police hurried to transport the corpse to the mortuary without notifying the man’s family members.

According to the administrator, this incident incited them to storm the police station in an attempt to obtain information.

They then proceeded to the residence of the alleged assailant, where they set fire to his house.

Following this, they reverted to the trading centre, where they set fire to a portion of the liquor establishment.

Onyango verified that the suspect had already turned himself in to the police at the Sihayi police station and was incarcerated at the Ukwala police station, so members of the public who were seeking revenge did not find him at his residence.

Inquiries have been initiated in the interim to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
